Not only do many production processes require heating to temperatures far above those that can be reasonably achieved with water or steam, but high-temperature systems without steam pressure are also increasingly being used for heat storage in the utilisation of renewable energy sources.
Fossil fuels, production residues and, increasingly, a wide range of biomass with high efficiency and environmental compatibility requirements serve as energy sources. Thermal oils and molten salts act as heat transfer media.
