Bitumen, tar, lubricant, and oil industries: Safe high-temperature heat and stable temperature control

Process heat for storage tanks, pipelines and their trace heating systems, mixing plants and thermal treatment

The bitumen, tar, lubricant and oil industries require large amounts of heat, and at the same time, high temperatures are crucial to ensure stable viscosities. Products must be reliably temperature-controlled, stored, mixed, and pumped. Temperature fluctuations lead to viscosity and quality problems, plant downtime, or even safety risks. At the same time, the media to be heated are often demanding, systems traditionally operate continuously, and integration into tank farms, piping networks, and production lines must be handled seamlessly.

CAW designs and builds extremely robust process heating systems for such demanding applications. Thermal oil systems are particularly well-suited for this industry because they deliver the required high flow / feed line temperatures without any vapor pressure and can, simultaneously, supply many heat consumers centrally. Thermal oil heaters are designed and engineered so that the heating surface load, gas and oil pressure drop, and efficiency are tailored to the specific application and available fuel. Additional heat exchangers can be integrated for secondary process media such as steam, water, or even hot gases. This allows heat to be flexibly distributed to different consumers.

Heat recovery is a key strategy for reducing fuel and primary energy consumption – and thus operating costs. Economizers and shell-and-tube heat exchangers use exhaust heat to preheat media and / or combustion air. For emission-related issues or exhaust air streams containing organic contaminants, thermal oxidizer / incinerator systems can be used as an alternative or in conjunction with other systems to safely oxidize pollutants and simultaneously recover heat. Electric heaters are generally an option when emission-free operation or coverage of peak electrical loads is required.
