    In mechanical engineering and the metalworking industry, thermal processes are a key part of the value chain: Heat is required for furnaces, mixers / reactors, preheating lines, drying, coating, temperature control, heating rolls and forming machines, as well as for cleaning and processing operations. Rapid responses to unavoidable load changes, stable temperature control during variable manufacturing processes and formulations, and seamless integration into existing production lines are therefore key criteria.

    Heat recovery is playing an increasingly important role in this industry. Economizers and tube-and-shell heat exchangers utilize exhaust gas and other waste heat streams to preheat products and process media or to transfer energy to other circuits. For exhaust air and exhaust gas streams containing organic compounds or causing odor issues, thermal oxidizers / incinerators treat the exhaust air thermally while simultaneously recovering heat. For system designs with a constant level of waste heat, an ORC system can generate additional electrical energy.
